Nearby, on the opposite side of Lake Orta (or Cusio) is the picturesque town of Orta with the enchanting island of San Giulio and the renowned Sacromonte.
On the other side of the Mottarone is Lake Maggiore (or Verbano), with Stresa and the Borromeo islands (Isola Bella, Isola dei Pescatori e Isola Madre), Verbania with the English gardens of Villa Taranto.
If you have a passion for mountains then you can easily reach Valle Anzasca with the alpine resort of Macugnaga and the summitof Mount Rosa; Valsesia with Varallo and the 16th century Sacromonte, the skiing resort of Alagna and the Walser hamlets. If you have time to spare, there is also Valle Vigezzo, Antigorio, Formazza and Alps Devero and Veglia.
